Chapter Fourteen

Silence spread across Coyote Willy’s backyard, broken only by the pounding of my heart. I stood with my back to Don’s caravan, staring into the eyes of the tall, skinny wolf whose big mouth threatened to get us dragged back to Hell. Beki rose to her paws and growled, her hackles rising. It reflected exactly how I felt.

“Did you follow me?” I asked.

Rocco raised a shoulder. “The girls were talking about your friend. Did you know she tried to get the beta to go back to that caravan with her? I guessed you’d gone to see her, and I was about to knock when you stepped out.”

“So, you’re a stalker, then?”

“I’m a wolf, if that’s what you mean.” He closed the distance between us.

A flare of panic turned my mind blank as I considered the consequences of the Hellfire pack finding out that I was also a spy. “Why are you doing this?”

“You were so good with the hounds.” He pressed me against the side of the rusty caravan. “I’ve never met a female my wolf liked so much.”

Rocco’s aftershave burned the insides of my sinuses, making my eyes water. I gave him a hard shove, but he was ready for me and had braced his weight on his back foot.

“Get the fuck off me,” I growled.

“No,” he growled back. “You and me… we have a connection. We work like we’ve been together for decades.”

I clenched my teeth. This guy was crazy. How could he tell something like that after an afternoon of work and two brief conversations?

“Rocco, stop this, or I’ll—”

“You’ll what?” His wiry body pressed into mine. “Griff is in the bar right now, waiting to see if you’re coming for dinner. I could tell him.”

After seeing what happened to Ruby and Marianna, I wasn’t about to return to the Punishment Pits to face the wrath of Hades. But there was no way in Heaven, Hell, or any other realm that I would buy this wolf’s silence with sex.

I’d seen what happened when a woman gave into the demands of an unscrupulous wolf who thought he had some kind of power over her. Gerrison had made me watch the bastards confessing and getting punished, so I could understand every dirty nuance of managing a pack. One hand job would escalate into a demand for a blow job, and before I knew it, I’d be on all fours, getting anal.

No. Fucking. Way.

“Not here,” I hissed.

“This is exactly the right place,” he growled.

Frustration welled in my gut like a geyser about to sprout. My nostrils flared, and I ground my molars. This wolf was persistent. If I didn’t think of a way to get rid of him, then I, Larissa, and Beki were finished.

My wolf barked her encouragement in a way that suggested I already knew what to do.

“You’re right,” I said, my mind drifting back to the awful video Hades had sent Larissa. “If anything goes wrong, we’ll just have to improvise.”

She gave me a sharp nod, her faith in me filling me with confidence to execute our plan.
